Los Angeles, California — Federal authorities apprehended Eugene Henley Jr., a prominent Los Angeles gang leader, Wednesday following a search. Henley, known as “Big U,” faces charges related to a wide-ranging criminal enterprise, including murder and human trafficking.
The arrest occurred after a federal complaint named Henley and 17 others from the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips for various federal offenses, including drug and firearms violations. Ten individuals were initially taken into custody, with Henley and one other at large.
Investigators allege Henley directed the “Big U Enterprise,” a criminal organization engaged in extortion, robbery, fraud, and the exploitation of sex workers. Additionally, he is suspected of misappropriating funds from his anti-gang charity, Developing Options, allegedly employing it as a cover for unlawful activities.
Henley is implicated in the 2021 murder of a rapper signed to his music label, Uneek Music. Prosecutors assert the victim was killed after recording a song deemed defamatory. They also allege Henley used his position and connections within the gang to intimidate individuals and businesses.
Henley further faces accusations of submitting a fraudulent COVID-19 relief loan application. If convicted, Henley could receive a life sentence. This case highlights the complex intersection of gang activity, human trafficking, and organized crime within Los Angeles.
