San Francisco, California — A jury has convicted a man in connection with a violent sexual assault against a passenger aboard a Muni bus. The case highlights the serious physical and emotional harm survivors may face and the legal options that can exist alongside a criminal prosecution.
San Francisco Jury Convicts Man After Muni Bus Attack
The attack occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. on April 26, 2025, aboard a 29 Muni bus near Winston Avenue in San Francisco.
Prosecutors said 26-year-old Dasan Warsaialem Brown assaulted the passenger after the other riders had exited the bus. He strangled the victim and attempted to rape and sexually penetrate the victim with a foreign object. The victim sustained several injuries, including hair loss.
The bus driver witnessed the incident and called for assistance, leading San Francisco State University Police to detain Brown. A jury later convicted him of multiple offenses, including attempted rape, sexual battery by restraint, felony false imprisonment, assault, and attempted sexual penetration.
Brown remains in custody and is scheduled for sentencing on September 3, 2026.
