In a swift verdict, a federal court jury in Dallas found 42-year-old Anjum Zafar Mian guilty on 15 charges related to child sex trafficking. The conviction could result in a lifetime prison sentence for Mian. The U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed that Mian was initially charged via criminal complaint in December 2022 and later indicted in March 2023.
The jury’s verdict included convictions on two counts of sex trafficking through force, fraud, and coercion; two counts of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking through force, fraud, and coercion; four counts of sex trafficking of a minor; three counts of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor; two counts of sexual exploitation of a child; one count of transporting a minor across state lines for prostitution; and one count of interstate transportation for prostitution.
During the trial, two victims bravely testified about the horrifying ordeals they endured. Abducted as teenagers, they were forced into prostitution by Mian. Both victims, aged 16 and 17, were subjected to drugging, alcohol, and drugs before being exploited in the commercial sex trade. The 17-year-old victim, hailing from Oklahoma, was threatened with harm to her family if she attempted to escape.
Mian also tried to traffic an adult woman from Oklahoma, who reported the assault to the police.
U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton expressed her condemnation of Mian’s actions, highlighting the horrific reality of human trafficking. She urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicions of trafficking to law enforcement, emphasizing the Justice Department’s commitment to dismantling the invisible chains of this crime.
Mian now faces the possibility of life imprisonment in a federal facility. His sentencing is scheduled for Friday, October 13 in Fort Worth.
