Center for Sex Trafficking Victims Set to Open in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, California — In a bid to provide support and refuge for sex trafficking victims, a resource and empowerment center named “The Table” opened its doors in downtown Sacramento on January 31, 2024. The center aims to offer a secure haven for individuals who have suffered from forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation.

Ashlie Bryant, CEO and co-founder of 3Strands Global Foundation, the Sacramento-based nonprofit spearheading the initiative, emphasized the significance of The Table as a sanctuary where individuals can access essential services and find solidarity. “We want to have a place where everyone can come and meet around the table and get the services they need, whether they’re at risk or they are a survivor,” she stated.

3Strands Global Foundation, dedicated to combating sex trafficking and aiding victims, has been providing crucial services in the region. However, the downtown Sacramento location marks the organization’s inaugural empowerment center, boasting various amenities, including meeting spaces for case management, a computer lab for job searches and other resources, childcare facilities, showers, and a kitchen.

Official statistics reveal that between 2015 and 2020, approximately 13,000 individuals fell victim to sex trafficking in Sacramento County alone. Kaitlyn DiCicco, vice president of survivor services at 3Strands Global Foundation, highlighted that sex trafficking affects individuals of all demographics and genders, debunking the misconception that it only involves young girls. She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts and safety measures in supporting victims.

The opening of The Table signifies a pivotal shift from scattered services to a consolidated space, enabling greater outreach and accessibility. “Now there’s a place where they can come and feel safe and access services,” DiCicco expressed.

The new 1,200-square-foot location situated on H Street is poised to become a beacon of hope and assistance for victims of sex trafficking in the Sacramento community.
