139 Child Predators in California Arrested in LAPD’s Mass Crackdown

The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Operation Online Guardian has resulted in the arrest of 139 individuals involved in child sex abuse and pornography. The wide-reaching operation, involving over 100 agencies, aimed to combat internet crimes against children.

“Predators target those who can’t protect themselves,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney General Joe McNally, emphasizing the urgency to counter such heinous crimes.

The operation was executed in two phases. Initially, undercover officers on social media identified individuals trafficking child pornography. The second phase saw the execution of search warrants across five Southern California counties.

The LAPD announced that numerous vulnerable children were saved from further abuse, while the victims silenced by these unspeakable crimes found their voices restored. However, the exact number of children rescued or the names of suspects were not disclosed. Charges filed range from sodomy of a child, sexual abuse, and possession of child pornography to failing to register as a sex offender.

Despite this major achievement, law enforcement resources are still strained, grappling with the overwhelming number of internet child predator cases. This shortfall has spurred the creation of underground groups like Southern California’s CC Unit, which coordinate sting operations and furnish evidence to police.

In light of these events, LAPD urges parents to be vigilant about their children’s online activity and directs them to missingkids.org/NetSmartz for internet safety resources.

The LAPD has reassured that although Operation Online Guardian has concluded, the task force will continue its mission to protect children against child predators in California.

Survivors of sex trafficking are urged to reach out to the Women’s Rights Group for exceptional legal aid and empathetic support in pursuing just compensation for their anguish and trauma.

Officials are also calling for increased education and awareness surrounding the issue of sex trafficking, in order to protect our children and prevent them from becoming victims.
