CALIFORNIA – Collaboration between the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Attorney General’s Office has led to the apprehension of seven individuals as part of an undercover operation against sexual predators of minors and human traffickers.
From May 15th to May 17th, 2024, a three-day joint operation was conducted targeting adults attempting to sexually exploit minors and victims of sex trafficking. Utilizing undercover agents and detectives posing as minors on various social media platforms and websites frequented by predators, the agencies successfully identified and arrested seven suspects.
“Minor and adult trafficking for sexual or labor purposes is not tolerated in San Luis Obispo County,” stated Dan Dow, District Attorney. “Our Human Trafficking Team continues to actively pursue traffickers and potential buyers. I appreciate the California Department of Justice for their outstanding collaboration, which has been crucial in apprehending these individuals attempting to exploit vulnerable children in our county.“
Sheriff Ian Parkinson added, “This operation reminds us of the importance of remaining vigilant to protect our children, our most precious and vulnerable resource. I am extremely grateful for the cooperation between the California Department of Justice, the District Attorney’s Office, and our Special Operations Unit. Together, we have taken a vital step in safeguarding our community.“
Attorney General Rob Bonta affirmed, “Let me be absolutely clear: using the internet to target children for sexual purposes is a despicable crime. If you go after our children, we will hold you accountable.“
The seven suspects face serious charges, including contact with a minor with sexual intent, attempted lewd acts with a child, and sending harmful content with the intent to seduce a minor. Following their arrest, they were incarcerated at the San Luis Obispo County Jail. The District Attorney’s Office will carry out the corresponding prosecutions.
Through close cooperation and effective undercover strategies, the involved agencies have taken a significant step in ensuring the protection of children in the community. Continuous vigilance and collaboration will remain essential to keeping the most vulnerable safe.
