Pasadena Man Sentenced Over Child Sex Trafficking Charges

[Pasadena, CA] Daylan Lamont Camp, a 28-year-old resident of Pasadena, was sentenced to nine years in federal prison on Wednesday after being found guilty of trafficking a 14-year-old girl for commercial sex in San Diego.

Camp had previously admitted to conspiring to engage in child sex trafficking. His arrest stemmed from an investigation initiated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office after they uncovered commercial sex ads featuring the minor.

Acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Haden stated, “Sex trafficking inflicts deep psychological and physical scars on its young victims. Our pursuit for justice for these children is relentless.”

The Pasadena child trafficking case unfolded when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) informed Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) about an active commercial sex ad linked to the minor, previously reported as a runaway in Los Angeles. Within the span of a few months, several online ads displaying her images were identified across Southern California.

A collaborative effort by HSI and the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force led to a sting operation. This operation resulted in the rescue of the minor and another adult woman from a hotel. Examination of the girl’s phone revealed disturbing conversations between her and Camp about commercial sex work.

In a related development, prosecutors are probing Backpage.com, alleging the site was a facade for prostitution. The former CEO, Carl Ferrer, recently confessed that the site did indeed facilitate prostitution. Several individuals, including the site’s operators, have come under scrutiny, with claims they intentionally allowed the site to be used for sex exchanges.

HSI San Diego’s special agent, Chad Plantz, emphasized their unwavering commitment to bring such criminals to justice, ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of the victims.
