Man and Wife Arrested for Sex Trafficking in Sacramento

Sacramento, California – John Jeremy Cheso, 46, and Shannon Celeste Powell, 35, are facing sex trafficking charges in Sacramento, California after identifying two teenage girls who were subjected to sexual activity in their care. 

Around 8 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies observed two young women wearing lingerie near a car, according to official reports. After speaking with the girls, he discovered they were victims of sex trafficking. 

Detectives attended the scene and confirmed that the alleged traffickers were acquaintances of the family, whom the teenage girls called their “street parents”. John Jeremy Cheso and Shannon Celeste Powell were arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail and face felony human trafficking charges. 

Cheap faces an additional charge of resisting an officer, and his bond has been set at $2 million. He is expected to appear in Sacramento County Superior Court Wednesday afternoon. On her part, Powell’s bond has been set at $1 million, and his court appearance is scheduled for this Tuesday.
