In a landmark operation, north Fulton County authorities have unveiled the outcome of a year-long investigation into a suspected human trafficking and prostitution network. The announcement was made at a news conference attended by officials from the police department and the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
“It’s hidden in plain sight, right before our eyes,” remarked Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis.
Police actions targeted six locations including four massage parlors in Roswell: Alpha Massage, Ease Massage, Enjoy Massage, and Iris Massage, and two others – Barefoot Massage in Sandy Springs and Rose Massage in northeast Atlanta.
Roswell Police Chief James Conroy disclosed that nearly two dozen young women, believed to be victims of human trafficking, were rescued from these establishments. “We encountered over 20 employees. They were all adults and females,” he added.
Authorities have identified and arrested three individuals believed to be at the helm of the operation: Wei Cheng Huang, 56, Yan Lin, 41, and Lin Chen, 36. The trio now faces serious charges including racketeering, sex trafficking, and labor trafficking.
The Fulton County human trafficking operation has been lauded as a collaborative effort among the cities involved. “This operation was highly coordinated between our sister cities,” stated Roswell Mayor Kurt Wilson, commending the efforts led by the Roswell Police Department.
Efforts are also underway to provide the rescued women with the assistance they require. District Attorney Willis highlighted the cooperation with private victim advocacy groups to ensure the victims’ welfare. “We’ve been able to make sure they do have housing, that they’re being taken care of, that they’re safe,” she affirmed.
As the case remains active, police are withholding details on the victims’ backgrounds and the modus operandi of their captors. However, more arrests are anticipated and the implicated establishments have been temporarily shuttered.
