In Marion County, Florida, a couple has been arrested and charged with human trafficking, following allegations of forcing three women into prostitution.
Joselito Martinez and Tanya Wurster allegedly bailed the women out of jail between 2019 and 2021, offered them housing, and then coerced them into sex work, according to the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation.
Investigators report the couple profited over $300,000 from the victims’ forced commercial sex acts over a two-year period. Control tactics allegedly employed by Martinez included narcotics, violence threats, and degrading acts, such as shaving victims’ heads. It’s claimed he also used tattoos as a means to brand the women as his property.
The couple’s child was reportedly living in the home where the illicit activities took place.
Authorities believe there are likely more victims, given the couple’s continuous search for new individuals to exploit. Martinez and Wurster are currently being held at the Orange County Jail.
