Ventura County, CaliforniaHuman trafficking remains a critical issue affecting vulnerable women and girls across the state. The newly released statistical summary provides valuable insight into how local agencies continue to fight human trafficking while prioritizing trauma-informed care.

Six Years of Anti-Trafficking Progress in Ventura County

Between 2019 and 2025, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office operated two federally funded phases of an Enhanced Collaborative Model Task Force designed to combat human trafficking across the region. The first grant, awarded in 2019, helped establish a countywide unit focused on trauma-informed investigations and comprehensive support for survivors.

A second grant issued in 2022 enabled the task force to continue locating victims, pursuing traffickers, and strengthening access to essential services. These coordinated efforts were led by Sheriff’s detectives, supported by local law enforcement agencies and multiple victim service organizations.

Their operations addressed both labor and sex trafficking, in alignment with California Penal Code §236.1. During this period, nearly 400 cases were investigated, approximately 100 suspects were arrested, and more than 400 potential victims were identified. The task force also hosted over 800 trainings and outreach events to support prevention efforts.

Survivors may have legal grounds to seek justice, support services, and financial recovery. Women affected by human trafficking may pursue claims related to:

  • Forced labor or services obtained through threats, manipulation, or coercion
