Los Angeles Sex Trafficking Ring Leads to 11 Arrests

Los Angeles, California – Authorities have arrested eleven suspected gang members in connection with a large-scale sex trafficking ring operating along the Figueroa Corridor in South Los Angeles. Federal prosecutors allege that the operation targeted vulnerable young women and teenage girls, some as young as 14, over several years. The arrests represent a major step in dismantling a network accused of exploiting victims across multiple states.

Four-Year Operation Leads to Multiple Arrests

Federal officials announced the arrests after a multi-agency investigation into a sex trafficking operation that lasted at least four years. Prosecutors say the suspects acted as pimps, coercing victims into performing sex acts for money, which they were then forced to surrender.

Victims reportedly faced threats, violence, and physical abuse if they resisted. Some were branded with tattoos that displayed the suspects’ street names. In one case, a victim was allegedly stabbed with scissors, assaulted, and kept in a locked room. The investigation also revealed attempts to kidnap victims, as well as incidents involving drugging and beatings.

Legal Standards and Victim Protections

Sex trafficking is prosecuted under both federal and state laws, with severe penalties for those convicted. Under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) and related federal statutes:

  • Trafficking minors for commercial sex carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and up to life in prison.
  • Consent is not a defense when the victim is under 18.
  • Offenders may also face charges for kidnapping, assault, and related crimes.
  • Victims may be eligible for restitution, protection orders, and civil claims against traffickers and any complicit parties.
