Former Ally of GOP Strategist Jailed in Child Trafficking Case

Gisela Castro Medina, once closely aligned with ex-GOP strategist Anton “Tony” Lazzaro, received a three-year federal prison sentence on Tuesday. Her conviction stemmed from recruiting underage girls for Lazzaro.

In December 2022, she pled guilty to conspiracy in the sex trafficking of minors and obstruction in the investigation. Although five other trafficking counts will be dismissed, the court highlighted her initial hindrance to the probe before cooperating.

At her sentencing, a tearful Castro Medina expressed gratitude for her arrest, crediting it with her life’s transformation. Nevertheless, parents of one victim conveyed their daughter’s profound betrayal by Castro Medina and called for a substantial sentence. The defense emphasized her abusive childhood, suggesting Lazzaro filled a paternal void in her life.

Despite the prosecution acknowledging her exceptional cooperation, they recommended a seven-year term.

Castro Medina admitted using social media to connect teens with Lazzaro in his Minneapolis penthouse. Lazzaro is now serving 21 years for child trafficking.
