Oakland Police to Intensify Crackdown on Sex Trafficking

Oakland, California — Oakland Police Chief Floyd Mitchell has announced a significant escalation in efforts to combat sex trafficking along International Boulevard, a notorious area known as “The Blade” for its prevalence of prostitution.

The move comes in response to growing concerns from residents who have voiced frustration over the persistent presence of sex workers in their neighborhood.

Residents like Terrence, who lives near the area, have expressed discontent with the situation. He described the situation as people walking naked up and down the street at all hours of the day, noting the constant presence of police who pass by without taking action, merely looking the other way.

However, Chief Mitchell assured the community that this situation would change.

During a recent public safety meeting, Chief Mitchell emphasized that addressing sex trafficking is a top priority for the Oakland Police Department. He stated there will be a significant surge in law enforcement efforts on International Blvd in the coming weeks to tackle these issues.

Chief Mitchell also revealed that OPD is coordinating with federal agencies to hold those promoting sex trafficking accountable for federal crimes. He did not disclose which agencies are involved but stressed the importance of the collaboration.

Residents and advocates are hopeful that this increased law enforcement presence will bring much-needed relief to the community and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.

The San Francisco Bay Area Human Trafficking Hotline remains available 24/7 at (415) 907-9911 to assist victims seeking help.
