Three Cuban men, including the ringleader, were sentenced to prison in Miami after pleading guilty to sex trafficking and smuggling Cuban women into the United States, forcing them into strip clubs to work off their debts. Shocking details emerged during the trial, revealing the depth of exploitation and manipulation endured by the victims.
Rasiel Gutierrez Moreno, 28, identified as the mastermind, received a 17-1/2-year sentence in a Houston federal court for smuggling approximately 20 women from Cuba to the United States. Court records indicate that Gutierrez Moreno coerced the women into paying inflated debts, often reaching up to a staggering $30,000 for their illicit entry into the country.
In a heart-wrenching plea agreement from 2021, he confessed to subjecting the women to demeaning conditions by compelling them to dance at strip clubs in the Houston area and engage in prostitution to repay their debts.
Investigators from the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service and Homeland Security Investigations uncovered Gutierrez Moreno’s horrifying tactics, including bragging about violence against other women and their families to coerce his victims, as reported by one unidentified woman referred to as “Victim 1.”
As part of his sentence, Gutierrez Moreno was also ordered to pay approximately $451,000 in restitution for the immense harm inflicted on these vulnerable women. His associate, Hendry Jimenez Milanes, 39, previously pleaded guilty to coercion and enticement charges, receiving a 10-year prison sentence and a restitution order of around $359,000. Another accomplice, Rafael Mendoza Labrada, 29, who pleaded guilty to racketeering charges, served approximately three years in federal custody.
