California — A statewide human trafficking sting operation, “Operation Reclaim & Rebuild,” has resulted in the rescue of 177 victims, including 11 children, and the arrest of 547 individuals. The week-long operation from January 26th to Saturday involved 107 law enforcement agencies and numerous advocacy groups.
Authorities announced the results of the operation at a press conference in Los Angeles, emphasizing the focus on rescuing victims of sexual slavery and human trafficking while disrupting the trade. Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Nochman stated that traffickers will be found, arrested, prosecuted, and face maximum penalties. He pledged unwavering commitment to eradicating human trafficking.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported 333 arrests during the operation. The rescued minors, ranging in age from 14 to 17, were placed in protective custody and will receive support services. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell highlighted the collaborative effort of law enforcement, government agencies, advocacy groups, and community members, emphasizing the operation’s success in restoring futures and delivering justice.
Participating agencies included the FBI, California Highway Patrol, and various regional human trafficking task forces. Several individuals were named in connection with arrests for human trafficking, pimping, and pandering, facing potential prison sentences upon conviction. The operation coincided with National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
