CALIFORNIA – A man was arrested for sex trafficking in California after a teenager, missing for weeks, was found in the trunk of a car.
The young girl was located in a vehicle parked at a residence in San Jose on March 25, approximately a month after she was reported missing in Palo Alto, according to a press release issued on June 3 by the San José Police Department.
During her disappearance, the teenager was held against her will by a man who threatened her and forced her to engage in commercial sex acts in exchange for money. Through an exhaustive investigation, detectives identified Jolaun Canton, 22, as the primary suspect.
On April 20, during an unrelated traffic stop, San Hose officers detained Canton, who attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. Canton faces multiple charges, including evading authorities and being a felon in possession of a firearm. After he was booked into jail, the district attorney’s office added additional charges of sex trafficking of minors.
Canton is currently being held without bail, according to online jail records.
This case underscores the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and the community in locating missing individuals and bringing those responsible to justice.
