Los Angeles Sues Sun Motel for Alleged Sex Trafficking

Los Angeles, California — The City of Los Angeles has filed a lawsuit against the Sun Motel, accusing the establishment of enabling widespread prostitution and violent gang activity along the notorious Figueroa corridor.

City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto announced the legal action on Wednesday, stating that the motel’s management has allowed escalating criminal behavior, including sex trafficking and prostitution, at the 10-room facility located at 10914-10918 South Figueroa Street. The lawsuit seeks to hold the motel accountable under California’s Red Light Abatement and Public Nuisance Law.

Feldstein Soto emphasized that the Figueroa corridor has long been a hotspot for crime, including the exploitation of minors through sexual activities, and that businesses like the Sun Motel have played a role in perpetuating this violence. She added that the lawsuit is part of a broader effort to restore safety and disrupt the criminal activities affecting the community.

Since 2020, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has reported at least seven shootings and over 30 arrests at the motel. Numerous investigations have linked the property to sex trafficking, robberies, drug dealing, and murder. Officers have also found evidence of prostitution during searches, including condoms and revealing clothing.

The city previously shut down the New Gage Motel under similar circumstances in 2023. The owner of the Sun Motel claims efforts are being made to address these issues, including management changes and property renovations.
