Child Sex Trafficking Ring Leader Receives Sentence; Awaits Others’ Fate

Brooke Thompson, involved in a child sex trafficking ring spanning from January 2019 to April 2020, received a seven-year sentence on Friday by Superior Court Judge David Zent. The decision comes after Thompson expressed remorse and agreed to testify against two other participants in the operation, one being her son, Caleb Thompson.

Originally facing charges including child sex trafficking and intimidation, Brooke’s plea deal eliminated most, leaving her with a promoting prostitution charge. Her sentence was influenced by the seriousness of her actions, wherein she, alongside Caleb and Ridge Borne, exploited a teenage girl to engage in sexual acts with adults for profit. They further blackmailed one client, leveraging the minor’s age.

While Thompson’s defense emphasized her mental health struggles and lack of education as factors leading to her involvement in the trade, Chief Counsel Tesa Helge highlighted Thompson’s past criminal records and her pivotal role in this nefarious scheme.

The victim, now over 16, was present in the courtroom during the sentencing but refrained from speaking. While 16 is the age of consent in Indiana, the involvement of minors under 18 in forced sexual activities qualifies as child sex trafficking.

Helge underscored Thompson’s tactics, particularly her attempt to blackmail a local businessman by threatening to expose his involvement with the underage girl. Thompson’s claims suggest this businessman had been a regular client.

As the legal procedures unfold, attention shifts to Ridge Borne’s upcoming sentencing on Monday. As per his plea deal, Borne will face charges related to corrupt business influence and marijuana possession.
